On tariffs, Forza Italia calls on the League: "The situation requires government unity. Negotiations with the US are not concluded. And Tajani is seeking new markets."

" I believe the situation we are experiencing right now requires unity within the government and, in my opinion, also within Europe. Therefore, I don't feel I need to respond to anyone's words and I believe that, with varying nuances, each party offers its own point of view, but ultimately the government is absolutely united in responding to the tariffs, which are a very sensitive issue." With these words, Alessandro Cattaneo, head of Departments at Forza Italia , interviewed by Affaritaliani.it , commented on the League's attack on Ursula von der Leyen's German-led European Union, which, according to Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini's party, is responsible for the 30% tariffs announced by US President Donald Trump starting August 1st.
"As a liberal, I and many of my Forza Italia colleagues," Cattaneo explains, " have never made a secret of how tariffs are a profoundly economically flawed measure . This initiative is harmful to the economies that impose it, and in fact, the American economy is also suffering in recent months. However, the negotiations are not over . It is precisely at this moment, since negotiations are still ongoing, that between now and August 1st we are talking, negotiating, and reneging. We must not allow fears to prevail, nor the reactive failures that other countries have committed, triggering escalations that are even more damaging to their economies."
"We must hold our heads high, be united, and negotiate. Italy, with its parliamentary acts and the decisions of the center-right government, demonstrates that it has a united government. Forza Italia, which represents the liberal and pro-European soul, brings its added value, its thinking. We know how worried our companies are, but we also know the value of our Made in Italy. America without Made in Italy is in any case more fragile ; the American consumer will certainly not be happy to see potential price increases among their favorite products," emphasizes the Forza Italia representative.
"That said, we must try to remain clear-headed. The US market is very important for Italy, but it represents only about 10% of our country's exports. On the one hand, there are negotiations with the United States, which must remain within the EU framework; on the other, the Italian government —primarily with the Foreign Ministry, and then with Minister Antonio Tajani— is opening and exploring other new markets . This is what a serious country does. We provide our readers with precise information. The game is not over; negotiations continue, and according to the market logic that the Americans themselves have taught us, we will try to make people understand that tariffs are a counterproductive market initiative and we will try to minimize them," concludes Cattaneo.
